Day 02 - Thessaloniki

I was supposed to go on the Amphipoli, Kavala and Phillipi tour today. On Friday afternoon I was notified that as I was the only person who had booked, the tour had been cancelled and that I would be refunded. Bummer! I will have to come back to Greece 😁
With nothing to do, I had a whole day stretching ahead of me, so I went exploring all morning. I walked for miles and miles, but I know everything I need to know to make my stay easier. Everything is so close to the hotel. At the most, a 20 minute walk.
I got back to the hotel at about 13:30 and my suitcase was there! Oh the joy of that moment. And it had been taken up to my room.
About my room: it's a nice size, double bed, air con, new bathroom with shower. All very clean, new and comfortable. I really am happy with it. Only problem is that it's on the third floor and there is no lift.
I think everything going wrong got to me and I really did not feel well. I took a couple of disprin and had a bit of a lie down. When I woke up at six, I felt all new. I freshened up and went out for dinner. I really didn't know where to go and so I just walked around until I found this little restaurant named Kits Ke Se Efaga. There were a couple of tables on the pavement and also a couple inside.
The view from my table.

There were only a couple of Greek student types sitting at a table and there were no hovering waiters. The table cloth was a piece of paper. it looked very relaxed and laid back so I decided to sit down and take a look at the menu. Talk about a good decision. I'm going back tomorrow night to try something else.

My meal tonight.

This was my dinner tonight. Starter was boiled potato with spinach, feta and apaki (a cured Cretan meat) with a sprinkle of grated lemon peel. It was absolutely delicious. I was so hungry I caught myself shoveling the food into my mouth. I forced myself to slow down and savour the food. The main was grilled pork belly strips fried with smoked oil. Soft and tender and so delicious.  You get 1l of water and the bread. All for €16.00. I'm stuffed. The meat choices here are basically fish, chicken and pork. Lamb is eaten, but it's more expensive and I didn't see it on the menu. They had steak, but it was really expensive.
I walked around and had an ice cream for dessert. An opera performance from Dublin is being shown
live in the Roman forum at the moment. Can hear it from my hotel. Such a different lifestyle in Europe.
I'm off to bed now. A much more energized person than yesterday. I'm off to Pella and then back to Thessaloniki. I will let you all know about my travels tomorrow.
